Timothy N. Pinnick is an article writer, national speaker, and author of the book, “Finding and Using African American Newspapers”. From 2006-2020 he taught as an associate instructor in the biennial “Researching African American Ancestors” course at the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research. In 2019 and 2023, Tim was the coordinator and facilitator of a workshop course at the Institute entitled “Building an African American Research Toolbox.” Pinnick has served in the past on the boards of the Association of Professional Genealogists, Genealogical Speakers Guild and Federation of Genealogical Societies. This summer he was appointed to a 3-year term on the Cape Fear Museum Advisory Board in Wilmington, North Carolina. He is the Lead Researcher for the New Hanover County Community Remembrance Project (NHCCRP), formed in 2019 and his efforts now center on developing a network of individuals, groups and organizations working to gather, share and preserve the history and stories of the Wilmington African American community.
